Montréal based musician Dumb Chamber now presents his debut solo-album, NouveauxContes. Working in a neoclassical tradition with a sample and sequence-based approach, Nouveaux Contes is temporally and mechanically opaque. At once orchestral, soupy, accelerated, fevered,meandering from background to squarely foregrounded, lush, and nocturnal, this album is infused with a sense of melodrama and a narrative impulse. Characters populate Dumb Chamber's work and despite pervasive abstraction, the cumulative effect is one of following familiar personnages—at times accompanied and other times solitary—through unfamiliar spaces.
