“Corps Utopique,” the penultimate track and second single from Rouzbeh Shadpey’s debut LP, Ritornello at Love’s End, unfolds as an ambient, cinematic dreamscape. Originally composed to score the final movement of Shadpey’s film Forgetting Is the Sun, the piece appears here in its unaltered form. Three punctuated words announce its arrival—my body, pitiless, place—only to submerge and later resurface within the slow swell of rising drones. The sick narrator laments the body’s failed topography, as he is gently swallowed by song. A high pitched siren marks the track’s conclusion, and with it, the voice’s disappearance. Illness is an anticlimactic affair.
